The brief review of Chinese steel history


炒钢(Wrought steel process), that is, puddling process, is a kind of new technique which can be found indirect description from the historical records of Eastern Han dynasty. Taipingjing (《太平经》) writes, “使工师击冶石,求其铁烧冶之,使成水,乃后使良工万锻之,乃成莫邪(古代的利剑)耶。” This is a complete process of make the iron ore to be iron fluid, then steel, finally high-quality weapon. It is a technical revolution in steel making history. In Europe, 炒钢 originated from Britain in 18th century, 1600 years later than China.
